Transparent Polycarbonate, Steel
The Beach Chair
The sculpture is designed with an outer shell of transparent polycarbonate filled with sand through which insects can burrow. The various mounds of sand appear to have been moved by small creatures entering the sculpture and traveling through the tubing. The piece is both a habitat for local sand creatures going about their business and an object suggesting repose by the ocean. The Beach Chair creates a point of intersection where sand and human worlds meet.
